Vikings HC Candidates 2.0

Updated: Feb 15

With Mike Zimmer being fired the Vikings have one of the most intriguing places for a Coach to want to be. Below I will have some of my HC Candidates so if you are coming from my Instagram after a certain interview with the Vikings just scroll down to find the Coach!

Cowboys OC Kellen Moore: Moore is a 33-year-old Offensive Coordinator and a new coach to the league. Moore started coaching in 2018 as a quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys, he then was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019.

Moore has been calling plays under Mike McCarthy for the last 2 seasons and has done a very good job. The Cowboys' offense has been a very effective unit this season getting Dak Prescott back from his season-ending injury last season. Kellen Moore has plenty of weapons in Dallas from a Star QB, 4 very good WR's, 2 good RB's and a very good TE. The Vikings have a few weapons themselves though in Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, K.J. Osborn, Tyler Conklin who is a FA, and Irv Smith Jr. The Vikings definitely could be a good place for Moore to call home.

There are some concerns with Kellen Moore though. No one quite knows how much power he has in the offense. Jerry Jones has been known to be a controlling owner over the team for years. I do think he is a very good play caller though, not sure if he is necessarily ready for a role as a Head Coach yet.

Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett: Hackett is a 42-year-old new and smaller name in the Head Coaching candidate list. He is the offensive coordinator of the Vikings Division Rivals, the Green Bay Packers.

Nathaniel Hackett's coaching background is not the most intriguing thing. He coached in Buffalo in 2013-2014 as an offensive coordinator, he also spent time as an OC with the Jaguars from 2016-2018. In 2019 he got the OC job in Green Bay under Matt LeFleur and the Packers' offense has been great ever it usually is when you have a HOF QB and great WR.

Hackett is learning from a great coach in Matt LaFleur, but how much of this is really him? I am not sure how to answer that with the little knowledge known on Nathaniel Hackett and his coaching status among the league.

Cowboys DC Dan Quinn: Quinn is a 51-year-old coach who has spent time at Seattle as a DC, Atlanta as an HC, and now is currently in Dallas as the Defensive Coordinator.

Dan Quinn has received a lot of hate from Vikings fans, mostly because he is a defensive coordinator and fans are scarred from Mike Zimmer. I am here to say that not all coaches are like Zimmer. Just because they are a DC doesn't mean they won't be involved with the offense or not watch the film with their starting QB until his fourth season with the team. I am not a huge fan of Dan Quinn, but I would not panic because he is a DC.

It is worth mentioning Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator for the Legion of Boom from 2013-2014, one of the Greatest Defenses of All-Time that beat the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos in the SB. He also made the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons in the 2016 Season where they lost to the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots after blowing a 28-3 lead.
